The most popular Sikh website in the world, www.sikhnet.com, in conjunction with Sikh Dharma International (www.sikhdharma.org), has created a special web-section to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the Guru Gaddi of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. A very special message from Giani Kulwant Singh Ji, Jathedar of Hazur Sahib is one of the featured videos on this section. As well as education videos about the Siri Guru Granth Sahib by the late SSS Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogji; and Guruka Singh,Shanti Kaur, and Gurucharan Singh.
In addition to educational videos, the special Anniversary section offers inspirational stories, ideas for how Sikhs can commemorate the 300th Anniversary in their own communities, and the US President and First Lady’s congratulatory message to the Sikh Community on this special Tercentenary.
300 years ago in the small town of Nanded, India, the 10th Living Master of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, bestowed the eternal Guruship for the Sikhs upon Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Siri Guru Granth Sahib is a compilation of Sacred Songs written by the Sikh Gurus, as well as by Hindu and Muslim saints of the time. The compilation began with the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and was completed in 1604. A century later, in 1708, the tenth and last living Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, added the Sacred Songs of his father, Guru Teg Bahadur, to Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and upon his passing, bestowed the Guruship upon the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. It is said that Guru Gobind Singh instructed his Sikhs to search for him within the Sacred Songs contained there, and to find enlightenment by meditating upon them.
This October, Sikhs around the world will honor and celebrate the 300th Anniversary of this event as well as the Joti Jot of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. A special program is being planned at Takhat Hazur Sahib in Nanded, India, where the transfer of authority to Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji took place, in 1708. SikhNet in conjunction with Sikh Dharma International will be posting inspiring and educational stories and videos in honor of the 300th Anniversary from now until mid October. Then a team will be covering the 300th Anniversary event live from Takhat Hazur Sahib and posting stories and photos to the SikhNet site.
