Alka Yagnik

Alka Yagnik, one of the most celebrated playback singers in Bollywood, was born in Kolkata, West Bengal on 20 March 1966. She was introduced to the world of music at a very young age by her mother, who was a classical singer. She started her music career at the age of six by singing bhajans for Calcutta Radio. Since then, she has come a long way and has been mesmerizing music lovers with her melodious voice. Alka Yagnik's versatility in singing has made her a top choice for composers in the Indian film industry. She has worked with some of the most celebrated composers such as Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, A R Rahman, Anand-Milind, Viju Shah, Himesh Reshammiya, Shankar-Eshaan-Loy, and many others. Her songs in Bollywood films also won her numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, two Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, and a record seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer. Despite her success in the Hindi film industry, Alka Yagnik has not limited herself to singing in just one language. She has sung in several languages such as Gujarati, Oriya, Assamese, Nepali, Rajasthani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam, showcasing her versatility in music. Although Alka Yagnik has not ventured into Gurbani music, her classical training has certainly influenced her singing style. Her renditions of Hindi film songs have a touch of classical music, making them stand out from others, and the way she expresses emotions through her voice is truly remarkable.
