This month, the sound journey continues with our exploration of the six-volume collection Diamonds of Eternity: Gurbani Classics. In our fifth volume of the series, we feature the beloved Dehradun wale Bhai Sadhu Sing who has enthralled and blessed listeners for over 50 years.

Bhai Sadhu Singh's journey with Gurbani began with him taking lessons from the late Giani Harditt Singh at the Guru Nanak Vidya Bhandar Trust, Gurdwara Rakan Ganj Sahib in Delhi. He started to perform kirtan seva in surrounding villages to Dehradun in 1961 and formed a kirtan jatha in 1965. In an interview with Omni Source USA in 2003, he talked about his early experiences and training. He detailed how, in 1976, he built a Gurmat Vidya school near Haridwar. He established such a close bond and relationship with students, teachers and sangat there, that on his leaving the fond request was that he either take the school along with him or stay there and provide his Gurbani teaching seva in the school.

During his performances and album releases over the last 50 years, he has been described by listeners as saintly, divine, touching, wonderful, inspiring, heart-warming, energetic, uplifting and soothing. He has the ability with his sweet nectar-like voice to personify the emotion of the shabad and transport the listener to their childhoods and the sweet memories of hearing kirtan for the first time.

To preserve this legacy, countless hours were spent going through cardboard boxes of cassettes from live recordings which had been stored away for almost 50 years, and were often unlabelled. This collection was then lovingly and beautifully restored for your enjoyment, and for future generations of Sikhs to experience the beauty of sangat past and present. Listen to Volume Five
