We need your support to make Ru: An animated short film come true! "Ru" is a beautiful adventure story that centres around a timid oil lamp called Ru and his quest for Light amongst the Darkness. It's a story about empowerment, self-development and compassion. As a young indie studio, we want to share stories with messages and morals that are thought-provoking and impactful.

Adrak Studios is run full time by brothers Eeshar Singh and Sirrjan Singh who were inspired by Human rights activist, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra. Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra disappeared in Punjab for his work in uncovering thousands of unlawful killings. Ru was inspired by this quote from his last speech.

“I challenge the Darkness. If nothing else, then at least around myself, I will not let it settle. Around myself I will establish Light.”

Motivated by a huge figure in recent Sikh history, this animation is the start of a Sikh presence in digital animation and creativity. Personally, I felt a real connection with the authors even though I’ve not met them. They are 2 Sikh youths who can easily spend their time working in a corporate environment and earn a healthy salary but they have chosen to spend their time to build something which will benefit the Sikh sangat from all ages. The pair are also students of Raag Kirtan which is an amazing musical mechanism our Guru’s have created to help us connect and feel Gurbani.

In our community, the last project with this quality was the “Char Sahibzade” animated movie. These animated movies allow parents to easily engage with their children and connect them to Sikh history/methodology. They help build a real connection with our Sikh principles through great storytelling and high quality digital animation.

I am really excited about this animation, it’s inspired by Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra and portrays Sikh ideals that our Guru’s taught. The authors wanted to involve the sangat in this project which is why they chose to create their campaign on Kickstarter. I hope all readers will be interested in making a pledge to this project on Kickstarter and to see more projects like this in the future.
