We all know about superpowers from action movies, and we may have even heard of superpowers by miracle workers. But Guru ji knows what the true superpowers are...

Today we, and our beloved children are highly exposed to superheroes and their superpowers. The powerful imagination of our children inspires their vision for their life in their future. It is perhaps more important that we normally realize just what kinds of stories and heroes we are inspiring. Think for a moment the implication of having a hero who a young mind wishes to replicate in their life: a hero who can fly and is impervious to bullets.

Besides the fantastical modern stories of many kinds of superheroes there are also stories that children may be exposed to of miracle workers. Of such there are famous stories of people who can raise the dead, manifest ashes or gold from thin air, or stop the rain from falling. All throughout the world today there is no lack of such oral traditions and modern testimonies of miracle powers.

Also take a moment to think about the implication of our children learning these stories. Surely it will inspire the want to obtain and practice spiritual powers. While we know such things are possible, all nine treasures and eighteen spiritual powers are available in the house of Nanak (ridh sidh ghar mo sabh hoi), these themselves are not the goal of spiritual practice. It is by our own actions, karmi apo apni ke nere ke door, that we got closer to God.

This is why it is important for us to teach our children of our Gurus and show them such teachings as:

Baba HarKrishan always maintained his innocence which is the only way to embody the two LOVING superpowers of kindness and compassion.

It is in this service to our generations that SikhNet presents this moving saakhi, animated story of Gurus two children who both looked light bright spiritual heirs. Baba Ram Rai was brilliant and Baba Harkrishan was sweet. Through this story we see that Baba Ram Rai went on to use and abuse many spiritual powers like becoming weightless, manifesting jewelry, becoming invisible, telling people their past lives, and many other impressive abilities (this is a shortened list of 72 miracles attributed to Baba Ram Rai on SikhiWiki).

Of course the wise Guru Har Rai could see the nature of these children before time would demonstrate their dispositions for everyone else to see. Gurus created a play in this world to show this truth to one Sikh.

The Sikh put a needle in the wood stand, the palki, under which the written form of the Divine Teachings were being recited by both the boys.
When Baba Ram Rai recited the needle could neither go in nor out of the wood. When Baba HarKrishan recited the needle could both go in and out of the wood, it seemed the hard wood turned soft only with the younger son! It was as if the love from Baba HarKrishan could melt everything around him. This marvel of spirit and nature was surely the result of the inner nature of this divine, innocent soul.

This leads us to the teachings that...

The greatest superpowers are:

KINDNESS and COMPASSION

We now know that Baba HarKrishan went on to sit on the throne of Nanak.

It is our prayer that bringing these stories to life will stimulate the robust imaginations of our young ones. May they have the real heroes who have the real superpowers!
