Langar on Wheels (Sikh Cycle Rally)
International Langar Week Flags off on 2nd Oct 2016 at 7:00 am in Delhi.
International Langar Week (from 3rd Oct to 9th Oct) is a week long campaign, across the globe, with the mission - HELLO LANGAR GOODBYE WORLD HUNGER.
We are on the mission to spread awareness and sensitize each individual of their responsibility towards others who maybe less privileged and how we as a society can break down barriers in order to create stronger bonds as a community and fight the biggest threat to human existence - HUNGER.
'Langar on Wheels' Sikh Cycle Rally, marked the beginning of this international campaign. About 40 cyclists rode 21 kms on the streets of Delhi while sharing Langar with the homeless and people on streets. The participants spread awareness about the relevance and principles of Langar with Delhiites by sharing leaflets and leaving them with some food for thought.
The campaign is international with the UK, USA, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia & Canada taking part. In India, the activities will be carried out in Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Varanasi, Amritsar, Ludhiana etc.
The following are the upcoming events during the week, in Delhi
• Tuesday, 4 October | HELLO LANGAR GOODBYE WORLD HUNGER - Street Play by team 'We The Sikhs' | 5:00 pm onwards, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib | The street play will emphasise on the role of each individual towards fighting hunger together and sensitize people towards our responsibility and highlighting the principles of Langar i.e. Fighting Hunger, Equality in Action and Service to Humanity.
• Sunday, 9 October | CHALLENGE HUNGER - Fitness, Games n Fun Challenge | 7:00 am onwards, Raahgiri @ Rajiv Chowk | Participants will be encouraged to take up challenge. For each task accomplished, we will add pack of biscuits to the slogan "Hello Langar Goodbye World Hunger" and make the largest slogan with pack of biscuits that will later be distributed to people on the streets. It is to encourage people participation and attributing responsibility where our efforts bring food to others, and thereby sharing happiness.
• Sunday, 9 October | HELLO LANGAR GOODBYE WORLD HUNGER - Street Play by team 'We The Sikhs' | 5:00 pm onwards, India Gate| The street play will emphasise on the role of each individual towards fighting hunger together and sensitize people towards our responsibility and highlighting the principles of Langar i.e. Fighting Hunger, Equality in Action and Service to Humanity.
