August 19, 2019 (New York, NY) -- The Sikh Coalition, the nation’s largest Sikh civil rights organization, has launched the first-ever C3 resources that educators can easily use to effectively teach students about Sikhism through inquiry. These resources are now available to more than 9,000 teachers in states that use C3 resources to set their school curricula. This collection includes elementary and middle/high school lesson plans, a discussion guide for CNN’s United Shades of America episode about the Sikh community, and ancillary background materials about Sikhism and the Sikh community for educators.
In addition, the Sikh Coalition kicks off its Back to School 2.0 Launch with a revamped Back to School Toolkit for educators and parents. The Sikh Coalition aims to provide Sikh families and all educators with an even greater range of key resources to accurately engage in Sikh awareness, combat school bullying and support religious rights through the revamped Back to School Toolkit and brand-new C3 resources.
“We wanted to ensure that parents and educators had easy-to-use resources that would provide the necessary information to get conversations started,” said Sikh Coalition Education Director Pritpal Kaur. “With this launch, we hope to empower the community to develop effective and fruitful relationships with their school district officials and area educators, resulting in a higher quality of life for their Sikh students.”
In addition to the Sikh awareness presentations, anti-bullying brochures, Know Your Rights materials, and legal resources geared to protecting and empowering Sikh children, this new and improved Back to School Toolkit provides educators and parents with new lesson plans, resources and reading materials. One major resource includes Sikhism: An Educator’s Guide, a resource explicitly designed to empower teachers with the necessary knowledge about Sikhi and Sikh students.
