The Parliament of the World’s Religions is pleased to announce a competition for essays that directly engage with its Global Ethic document, also known as "Towards a Global Ethic (An Initial Declaration)," in anticipation of its international interfaith Convening in Chicago, USA in 2023.

The top three winners will receive a cash prize and complimentary registration to the Convening, where they will present their essays in a dedicated program session. Find out more about Global Ethic here

How to Enter

To participate, essays must be written in English and no longer than 1000 words, with a clear focus on the Global Ethic document. Submissions that address global ethics in a general sense or only reference the Global Ethic document indirectly will not be considered. Each person is limited to one submission, and employees and trustees of the Parliament are not eligible to participate.

Please email your essay as a PDF or Word file to Dr. Myriam Renaud, the Parliament's Global Ethic Project Director, at [email protected]. Please include only your name and email address in your email; no other biographical information is necessary. Submissions are due by midnight (US Central Standard Time) on March 30, 2023.

The top three prize-winners will receive $1000 USD, $500 USD, and $250 USD, respectively, and their registration fees for the 2023 Convening of Parliament will be waived. They will also be invited to read their essays in a special program during the Convening, and their essays will be published on the Parliament's website and in its newsletter. The winners will be announced on April 31.

The 9th global Convening of the Parliament of the World's Religions will take place on August 14-18, 2023, returning to the United States and the birthplace of the modern interfaith movement, Chicago.
