SikhNet was privileged to have an interview (below) with Sr. Mohanpreet Singh, who is running a Virtual Punjabi Learning Program, titled: PELP.

What are your motivations?

A familiar face suddenly appears from a crowd at the reception lobby during a scheduled meeting for a corporate training assignment. He takes me to a room to meet his boss. He addresses his boss, “He is my mentor. Please hire him to train our team.” A flashback immediately emerges before my eyes. He was my student a long time ago. Many such instances happened. Their name card spells their achievements which gives me more motivation to be an agent of change. It serves the same motivation when parents appreciate us on our efforts to teach their children in learning Punjabi Language and eventually reciting Gurbani in the state of the art virtual environment. It’s the respect and recognition that we receive from learners which trigger immense motivation to do more for society.

What is your background, where did you get your education? What have you usually done for work?

IMG_3481 (13K)My parents gave their children the privilege of providing best of both the British and American education system studying in international schools during our academic years in Bangkok and Singapore. Being eldest to a family of immigrants whose ancestors established themselves as textile merchants in Thailand dating to WWII, it was natural to enter into a family related business after my graduation in Business Administration. As time and opportunities evolve, I had the chance to work professionally with other companies in different roles and dabbled in several areas ranging from retailing, real estate to marketing telecommunication services until things took a different turn. I moved to India because we became victims of the 1997 South East Asian financial crises triggered by Thailand that engulfed and drastically shook the region. We lost almost everything. India offered an emerging growth potential which would lay a platform to rebuild and revive my sagging fortunes.

Realizing that fate had directed me, I arrived in India and discovered my capability in education/training by accidental detection after undergoing a competitive selection from IT professionals. I rode the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and IT enabled services wave by landing a job as a Soft Skills Trainer in Punjab’s first International Call Center. With the passage of time and the blessings of Waheguru, I established my professional reputation and credentials which led to many freelance Corporate Training assignments for other companies in the IT sector. The areas of expertise or work I have been covering as a Soft Skills Trainer are:

  • English Communication Skills
  • Voice & Accent Neutralization (American/British)Training
  • Socio –Cultural Sensitivities
  • Customer Service/Telemarketing
  • IELTS

Thereafter, the State Government selected my newly formed agency to implement their flagship C- TOSS Soft Skills Program (Chandigarh -Training on Soft Skills) to the designated Government Schools in Chandigarh on a contractual basis ever since 2006. Recently, I joined Soft Solutions, a Web Development /Designing Company as a Content Writer and am working on a shared vision with the promoter of the company, Mr. Sukhdeep Singh, who adopted the project. We started to develop and promote Punjabi Language training through a face to face virtual live classroom using this state of the art delivery platform. The making of the website according to this new concept “Anywhere Anytime” leads us to reach out to the global Sikh community to enjoy the services in the comfort of their homes.

This company in its heydays of 2,000 was a small office manned by the promoter, Sukhdeep Singh who launched Web Development and Designing, executing projects in diverse fields from manufacturing to services areas for small to large enterprises and expanded to provide outsourcing its core competencies to international companies across Asia, US, Europe and Africa. This service objective is for companies to enjoy a distinct advantage of managing their internet based business. The total one stop solution offered an integrated e-commerce development, CMS Solutions, Internet Marketing, Domain/Web Hosting, Payment Gateway and Search Engine Optimization to the clients thus giving us the competitive edge over others leading to SEO services achieving top ranking 5 years in a row. Moreover, the advent of Soft Solutions’ expertise in IT Training resulted from its IT industrial training (apprenticeship) to IT students from various high profile colleges in this region on an annual basis has leap frog us into recognition for software language training covering web development languages(Java, Asp.Net, Php) and Web Designing (Adobe, Corel Draw, HTML etc.,) and even Android courses.

What is the dearest thing to your heart?

Apart from my whole family’s love, it is integrity and character which is something I hold dearest to my heart. I believe practicing and upholding ethics in dealing with people remains a principle beyond compromise. I have witnessed how businessmen resort to misleading/cheating people for just a few more riches which do not last long. As for character I abstain from other vices that reflects and causes a negative effect/image to my family and religion.

Who do you admire most?

I do admire a host of people whom have influenced and inspired me tremendously. First to mention are the Ten Gurus and the Guru Granth Sahib who I admire and worship because they touch my soul. As for personal heroes it is none other than Guru Gobind Singh ji who instilled the Sikh spirit into his followers/disciples and led them to fight injustice, cruelty and inequality through the prism of the Sikh faith he had initiated.

Who is the real you?

I have yet to fully discover myself because I believe we are learning constantly. My parents played a key role in shaping my thoughts where they have always emphasized on honesty and integrity as core values. Some people acknowledge that I possess a global mind but an Indian heart which in a sense means outward looking professionally and yet retaining conservative traditions at home. Despite being a movie and sports fan, I do cherish some moments to enjoy good strictly vegetarian food, music, read journals and receive my peace from participating in religious congregations.
