The part-time Major Gifts Officer position

This is a part-time position of 10-15 hours a week. It has the potential to grow to 20 hours per week and even to full-time, depending on performance.

SikhNet is offering an exciting job opportunity to join our team as the new part-time Major Gifts Officer. Our Major Gifts Officer plays a critical role in increasing donor support and acts as an ambassador for SikhNet across the global Sikh Community. Responsibilities include: major donor identification, cultivation and stewardship to increase overall retention and giving levels, and relationship management between donors and others on the board and staff who work with them. The Major Gifts Officer also helps formalize and grow SikhNet’s planned giving and endowment programs.

The successful applicant will live in the US or Canada and speak both English and Punjabi. This is a remote job opportunity. 

As the Major Gifts Officer, you will  report to the Chief Development Officer and will work collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, board members, and other external stakeholders.

As our Major Gifts Officer, you will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate SikhNet’s mission is key. You will help organize, prepare for, and attend community outreach events and individual major donor meetings, which will include some travel.

Requirements and Duties

  • Assist donors to accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with SikhNet
  • Secure major gifts at the $1000-$10,000+ level, with annual goals to reach
  • Use Donor Relationship Software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools
  • Manage and grow our existing major donors and prospects
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to align efforts and set goals
  • Make direct, face-to-face, zoom or telephone solicitations
  • Provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel and help with donor communications with the Board
  • Acknowledge major donors
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics
  • Work with CDO and CEO to identify communities to visit with our Community Outreach program; plan, prepare and help implement the program; travel with CEO to Community Outreach events, share in presentation, major donor and prospect meetings and all events

You might be perfect for this job if:

  • You are a true people person, with an outgoing nature, an extrovert who thrives on engaging conversation and is not afraid of the “ask”
  • You have at least 1 year of successful major gift fundraising experience, and 2+ years of general fundraising experience
  • You are comfortable being on the phone or computer for extended periods of time
  • Preferably, you speak fluent English and Punjabi
  • You are comfortable on the phone or zoom
  • You are comfortable using a donor database, prospect research and other wealth screening tools
  • You are able to establish and maintain good working relationships in SikhNet and with outside constituencies
  • You are organized, prepared, detail-oriented and follow through on promises
  • You have no difficulty working from home and showing up for work on a consistent basis

Physical requirements

You must be able to spend most of your time listening, talking, working on the computer and phone, and occasionally work long days, nights or weekends. Some travel will be required.

Valid driver's license, insurance and passport.
