Hundreds of Sikh devotees will congregate at 450-year old at the site of demolished Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib at Haridwar ‘Har ki Pauri’ on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
It may be recalled that the Gurdwara was demolished in November 1984 by angry Hindu mobs. Sikh community has been time and again demanding the reconstruction of the shrine.
All India Sikh Conference President Gurcharan Singh Babbar Saturday said the Sikhs would march from Akal Takht, Amritsar and other states to celebrate the Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev.
He disclosed that the Uttarakhand government has sealed the border and would not allow Sikhs to visit Har ki Pauri between November 26 to 29 and the Sikhs were not allowed to enter Haridwar.
Terming it as murder of democracy, the All India Sikh Conference has urged all the Sikh leaders including Akal Takht Jathedar, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Paramjit Singh Sarna, SAD Amritsar President Simranjit Singh Mann, Peoples Party of Punjab president Manpreet Singh Badal to intervene and take up the issue.
The members of All India Sikh Conference have also approached President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Dr Hamid Ansari and other political leaders including Sita Ram Yechury, Mulayam Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Mamata Banerjee, Arun Jaitley, Mayawati and Punjab MPs to take the issue of injustice against the Sikh community by the Uttarakhand government.
Assuring that the congregation would be peaceful, the Sikh Conference president Gurcharan Singh Babbar said the community wanted only to celebrate the Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev. However, he also warned that the community was ready to face any situation in case the Uttarakhand government did not permit the Sikhs to visit Haridwar.
